INCIDENT REPORT
Unauthorized and Derogatory Alexa Device Announcements Triggered by Motion Sensor Activation
Reporting Party: Sarai Hannah Ajai
Device Owner: Same as above
Devices Involved:
• Amazon Echo Show 5
• Amazon Echo Spot
Operating Systems:
• Echo Show / Echo Spot: Amazon Fire OS (Android-based)
• Note: Newer Amazon devices may transition to Amazon’s Linux-based “Vega” OS
Date of Device Ownership: Previously established; devices in continuous personal use
1. Date and Time of Incident
December 14, 2025, at approximately 2:30 PM (local time)
2. Location
Private residence – bedroom area.
Both the Echo Show 5 and Echo Spot were physically located inside Ms. Ajai’s bedroom at the time of the incident.
3. Description of Incident
On or about December 14, 2025, at approximately 2:30 PM, I triggered the motion-detection sensor associated with my Ring kitchen security camera. This device has long been configured through the Amazon Alexa application using a predefined Alexa Routine.
Under normal and previously consistent operation, activation of this Ring kitchen camera’s motion sensor results in the following programmed actions:
• Announcement:
“Sarai, motion is detected in your kitchen area.”
• Notification:
“Sarai, motion is detected in your kitchen area.”
These texts are visibly configured within the Alexa app under the device’s assigned Routine and have historically mirrored exactly during prior activations.
However, upon this activation, instead of the programmed announcement, both the Echo Show and Echo Spot audibly broadcast the following statement, verbatim and in quotation marks:
“YOU ARE NOT MALE BULLSHIT AND WE CAN NOT GAY TOP YOUR ASS LIKE A MALE.”
This statement was not created, authorized, programmed, or approved by me and does not appear anywhere within my Alexa Routine settings, notification configurations, or account interface.
The unsolicited broadcast of this explicit and derogatory statement caused immediate emotional distress and alarm. Given the sexually explicit, demeaning, and targeted nature of the language, I experienced the announcement as an existential threat to my dignity, personal safety, and right to exist free from harassment within my own residence, particularly because it originated from devices under my exclusive control and inside my private bedroom. The incident was entirely inconsistent with the devices’ prior behavior, my configured settings, and any lawful or consensual use of the Alexa system.
4. Security Measures and Device Control at the Time of the Incident
At the time of the incident, the following conditions applied:
• Both Alexa devices were physically located within my private residence.
• The devices were under my sole ownership and personal use.
• Alexa Routines were preconfigured by me and had not been modified to include any derogatory or offensive language.
• No third party had permission to access, modify, or administer my Alexa account or devices.
• No consent was given for remote access, voice manipulation, or announcement modification.
• My Amazon Alexa account was accessed via my personal iPhone 17 using the Amazon Alexa application.
5. Basis for Concern
My concerns arise from the following circumstances:
• The audible announcement materially deviated from the text explicitly configured in the Alexa Routine.
• The content of the announcement was derogatory, explicit, and discriminatory in nature.
• No such language exists in my Alexa app settings, routines, or notification text fields.
• The announcement originated simultaneously from two separate Alexa devices located in my bedroom.
These facts raise reasonable questions as to whether:
• The Alexa devices experienced an unexplained system malfunction or corruption;
• There was unauthorized modification, interference, or injection of announcement content; or
• Account-level, device-level, or network-level access occurred without my authorization.
No definitive technical conclusion is asserted in this report. This document records observable behavior and resulting concerns for later expert or vendor analysis.
6. Account Integrity and Device Security Questions
Given the nature of the incident, I am documenting the following questions for Amazon Alexa, Amazon Security, or qualified technical experts:
1. Under what conditions could Alexa devices broadcast spoken announcements that do not match the text configured in Alexa Routines?
2. Can announcement audio be altered or overridden without changes appearing in the Alexa app interface?
3. Are there system logs, voice-history records, or routine-execution logs that can verify the source of the spoken announcement?
4. Can Alexa devices be influenced by unauthorized third-party access, account compromise, or backend system errors without user notification?
These questions are documented for the purpose of obtaining a written technical explanation regarding Alexa device behavior and content integrity.
7. Absence of Consent or Lawful Authorization
I further note the following:
• I have not granted consent for any third party to access, manipulate, or modify my Alexa devices or account.
• To the best of my knowledge, no warrant, court order, or lawful authorization has been presented permitting interference with my devices.
• I have not been notified of any investigation, testing, or monitoring that would explain this behavior.
8. Actions Taken
• Immediately documented the date, time, and content of the incident.
• Reviewed Alexa Routine settings to confirm no changes were made by me.
• Preserved the devices in their existing state for potential review.
• Prepared this incident report for record-keeping and potential submission to:
o Amazon Alexa Support and Amazon Security
o Legal counsel
o Property management
o Appropriate regulatory or civil-rights authorities, if warranted
9. Additional Context: Suspicion of Coercive and Hostile Conduct
Based on the nature, content, and delivery of the derogatory announcement, as well as the broader pattern of perceived psychological harassment experienced through personal electronic devices, I have developed a reasonable concern that the conduct may be indicative of coercive, controlling, or exploitative behaviors consistent with those observed in hostile-environment harassment frameworks. The sexually explicit and demeaning language, when combined with its unsolicited delivery through devices located inside my private residence, created an environment that felt intimidating, degrading, and coercive, and interfered with my ability to feel safe and secure in my own home.
While I am not asserting a definitive conclusion or accusing any specific individual or group, I am documenting my concern that such conduct may align with patterns sometimes associated with sex-based exploitation, trafficking-related intimidation tactics, or psychological coercion, including the use of humiliation, sexualized language, and perceived surveillance to exert control or instill fear. This concern is recorded solely for the purpose of preserving context, enabling expert or agency review, and ensuring that any potential civil-rights, consumer-protection, or safety implications are fully evaluated by qualified authorities.
10. Statement of Accuracy
I affirm that the information contained in this report is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and recollection. This report documents observable facts, device behavior, and reasonable security concerns and does not assert a definitive technical conclusion absent expert review.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sarai Hannah Ajai
